An average person needs to change a toothbrush every three months, which adds up to 400 plastic toothbrushes in his/her lifetime. Imagine millions of plastic toothbrushes dumped into the landfill in Hong Kong every year, bearing in mind it takes around 500 to thousands years for plastic to decompose.
Brand story: Where it all started.
Did you know that a hundred million toothbrushes are thrown away in Hong Kong each year?
Unfortunately, most of them actually do end up in the ocean surrounding Hong Kong.
Plastic toothbrushes are not biodegradable so it remains in the environment for thousands of years - polluting our oceans and ecosystems. It is disintegrated by sunlight and salt water into smaller plastic particles, entering the ecosystem, into the food chain and eventually consumed by humans.
Aren’t there better ways to produce toothbrushes?
Agooday bamboo toothbrush- made by all natural materials
The brush handle is made by moso bamboo or makino bamboo. The soft bristles toothbrushes uses renewable nylon.
Moso bamboo & Makino bamboo
Moso bamboo is native in Asia, it grows quickly and can be harvested in three years. In comparison to wood, bamboo is a far more environmentally friendly material. Trees take longer to grow and is often logged in a manner that causes deforestation. However, in Taiwan moso bamboo is seasonal. During the bamboo shoot harvesting season, moso bamboo becomes out of stock. So during those times, we will be using the makino bamboo in replacement.
Renewable nylon for bristle(extracted from castor oil)
Renewable nylon differs from normal nylon as it is extracted from castor oil and therefore vegan friendly. Even though they cannot be decomposed in nature, the material does not use petroleum products and release less carbon dioxide in the production process. It is currently the most environmentally friendly material that we have found.
Currently Agooday has two different types of toothbrushes using the renewable nylon (children toothbrush and adult soft bristle toothbrush).
Head and handle design
The design uses ergonomics to create the most comfortable handle for both pen holding and grasping position on the toothbrush. The handle created by pieces of bamboo is 18 cm in length and 0.4 com in thickness -designed to be easy to grip. The one centimeter brush and thin shank design makes deep and thorough cleaning accessible. The back of the toothbrush can also be used to clean the tongue.

Each toothbrush handle has an animal design carved on the handle. The twelve different animal designs are all of native species from Taiwan. Different designs on the back of the toothbrush will make it much easier to differentiate your own from others!
Mold proof with high-temperature carbonization
Mold proof
Through high-temperature carbonization, the water in the bamboo is evaporated and the material is also strengthened in the process. A layer of beeswax and linseed oil is coated onto the bamboo to create a barrier from water vapor and prevent mold.
Keep dry
We recommend that the toothbrush be kept on dry surfaces when not in use to avoid mold growth.
